キッチンの天井に取り付けてある直管型水銀蛍光灯（1.2m、2本）が劣化したのでLEDランプのものと交換したら輝度が2倍ほどになって驚いた。LEDランプには光の色（昼光色・高演色）の他にもインバータ直管式とインバータグロー式のものがあって、よく選ばないと使えなくなるそうなので注意が必要だ。我家のものは高演色（普通の白色蛍光灯色）・グロー方式であり、このものを買ったが、値段は2本で9千円程もしたので少々高価なものを買いすぎたと反省している。４万時間（1日４時間点灯で２７年間）点灯と長持ちするそうなので、次回買い替える時（１０年後くらい？）に要注意だ。
　LED蛍光灯は水銀蛍光灯の様なガラス管ではなくプラスチック円筒管であり、中には多分窒素ガスかヘリウムガスが詰められていて、そこに140個くらいのLED発光体が羅列されているのだろう。
